“Memory” is the theme of the new edition of Umoristi a Marostica. In 2022 the famous international humorous graphics competition will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a multi-faceted theme linked to the concept of time.
“When you reach a goal it is inevitable to look back, to be aware of the road travelled, but only to move forward – explains the Gruppo Grafico Marosticense, promoter of the competition – Memory allows us to preserve and find memories of past events when needed, for this reason, since ancient times, memory has been celebrated as one of the most extraordinary human abilities because it is the only one capable of making men and events immortal. Memory preserves both ideas and images, even the saddest and most tragic ones, and allows us to create a bridge between past, present and future. In a period like this it is even more important to remember what happened, to overcome difficulties. Once again culture becomes a pillar to hold on to in order to start again and to return to hope."
Since its foundation, the competition has wanted to send a critical message on existence using the international language of graphics, beyond any political, linguistic and cultural barrier. The quality of the works and the jury, freedom of thematic choices and independence from commercial strategies make it one of the most popular competitions on the international scene, which in each edition brings together hundreds of works from every corner of the world, with the participation of important illustrators.
The 50th edition aims, in particular, to collect the legacy of a story told at the tip of the pencil through the most diverse themes (Vices, Lies, Rights, Time, Internet, Misfortune, Anniversaries, Bread...) and by illustrious names , always with an eye to the contemporary.
The “Humorists in Marostica” competition is open to cartoonists, illustrators and graphic designers of all nationalities. Registration and submission of works by 27 February 2022. The works, cartoons or strips, must be strictly free of dialogue or jokes. Awards 14 May 2022. Exhibition of the works at the Lower Castle of Marostica from14 May to 19 June 2022.
“Humorists in Marostica” is organized by the Gruppo Grafico Marostica in collaboration with the Municipality of Marostica.
